As a reminder, there is no instruction booklet on parenting. Each day begins a new journey, a new race and pace. Every mother has their journey & we can come together to help one another.

No one talks about overstimulation, but I'm here to share my journey and thoughts. Overstimulation is when an individual's sensory input or cognitive demands become overwhelming, leading to stress, anxiety, and difficulty processing information or sensations. As it relates to motherhood, overstimulation can have various effects: emotional stress, fatigue, reduced cognitive function, self-care neglect, social isolation, and last but not least, overstimulation impacts our child(ren).
For about a year now, I've reached a high peak with being overstimulated. Most days, I do not recognize myself as a single career-driven mom with several goals to achieve. My environment is high-stress; between not getting an adequate amount of sleep, work demands, & the demands of life, I've somehow lost myself. My days consist of working and coming home to my daughter, who is another full-time job; I do not have time to decompress. I'm always in go mode, so much so that I've been diagnosed with ADHD. I cannot get a single thought out without several more bouncing around. Overstimulation has taken a toll on me, but I'm here to say that I will not allow it to defeat me.
We, as mothers, need to recognize the signs of overstimulation. We must seek support from our partners, family, or professionals and implement self-care strategies to manage and mitigate its effects on our well-being and ability to provide optimal care for our children. If you are an overstimulated mom, please take care of yourself and develop a plan to conquer overstimulation.
Xoxo,
